house md music

Music on House, MD serves a unique purpose. Both helping to defining the series' central character, (the maverick medical genius Dr. Gregory House) and forwarding the series narrative, the music of House is almost a character in its own right.

Music often serves as a backdrop to key scenes, particularly dialogue-free montages that explain both the action and emotions taking place on screen. Often evocative, but crossing genres from classical to classic rock; blues to heavy metal, the House soundtrack is almost as eclectic as the musical tastes of the central character.

House, himself, is a musician, and his home is filled with musical instruments, including a grand piano, several Gibson guitars (a "Dobro," a "Les Paul" electric, a classic "Flying V" electric and a "Jumbo" acoustic), and even a banjo. House keeps a harmonica in his desk drawer as well. House prefers jazz and blues, it seems, but has been shown playing Bach on the piano and Italian arias on his ever-present iPod. He has sung from Romberg's The Student Prince — a romantic aria — which runs quite counter to his usual persona.
