At the close of this season, Jon Stewart will be stepping down as host of The Daily Show. Comedy Central’s late night staple satirical news show has not only been entertaining us for years, but has become one of the best, most pointed, must-see current affairs shows on television.
Making bona fide stars of Stephen Colbert, Steve Carrell, John Oliver, Stewart’s signature combination of silliness, satire, and biting, prescient questioning of everything and anything in both news and politics will be sorely missed. With Colbert’s move to network late night, taking over for David Letterman in the coming months, and now Stewart giving his final “moment of Zen,” a gaping hole will exist in our daily dose of news we can all use.
For nearly two decades, Stewart has taken the news of the day with all its puffery and talking headedness and used it as a springboard for some of the best political satire anywhere. The Daily Show will be missed. A lot.
