Comics giant IDW announced today that the hit Temple Street Productions sci-fi series Orphan Black will be making its comic book debut early in 2015. IDW Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall noted that, “Orphan Black, in addition to being a captivating TV series, is a perfect premise for comics, and as the second season has expanded the series in exciting new directions, that has only increased the amount of stories we’ll be able to tell in comic-book form.”
The new comic book series will feature new stories set within the Orphan Black universe, but not be a “clone” of the critically acclaimed television series, which airs in the U.S. on BBC America. The publisher will be “working closely with the show’s producers to expand the Orphan Black world.”
Recently renewed for a third season, Orphan Black tells the story of Sarah Manning, a woman who witnesses the suicide of a woman who impossibly appears to be her doppelgänger. But it is not impossible; Sarah is one of a series of biological clones. But how–and why?
Temple Street Managing Director John Young said he was inspired by the enthusiastic response the series had at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. They wanted “to give back to fans of the show through a medium so vital to the science fiction world.”
