CinemaCon 2025: Sony Pictures

In a video clip, Anaconda stars Paul Rudd and Jack Black introduced Tom Rothman, Chairman and CEO, Sony Pictures Entertianment Motion Picture Group. He talked a little of the business of exhibition, such as how Tuesday grosses are higher because ticket prices lower, and how costs and windows can work for or against them.

28 Years is becoming a franchise. Director Danny Boyle, who was on hand, returns as director and he presented the World Premiere of next trailer for 28 Years Later, which is filled with zombie mayhem as people try to stay alive and ahead of the creatures. It is set for release June 20. Returning screenwriter Alex Garland wants to make a new trilogy but hasn’t got final approved by Sony yet. But they do have the next installment, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple set for Jan 16, 2026. Director Nia DaCosta was on hand to talk a little about it.

Co-producer/co-writer Phil Lord and co-directors Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti introduced a trailer for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, set for release June 4, 2027. The movie picks up right after Across the Spider-Verse with the spider-heroes of the Spider-Verse in pursuit of Miles and his friends trying to help. The trailer was filled with mind-blowing visuals that one expects from this animated franchise.

Director Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing is set for release on Aug 27. Based on Charlie Huston’s book of the same name, it’s a madcap crime thriller set in ’90s NYC, the era when Aronofsky shot his debut film Pi. The trailer shows reveals ex-baseball player Hank (Austin Butler) caught in the crossfire of a number of gangsters when he helps out his punk-rock pal (Matt Smith) out, who looks to have stolen from all of them. Aronofsky cast Butler after crossing paths on press tours.

Directed by Kogonada from a screenplay by Seth Reiss, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is a romantic fantasy starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 19, 2025. Somehow, the duo relives important memories together, going back to his days in high school, visiting her family, in an attempt to relive the past and change their future.

Set for release on February 13, 2026, director Tyree Dillihay revealed Will Harris is a goat determined to team up with his idol to play sports, which tells the message that no matter how small you are you can dream big. Producer Stephan Curry on video, whose story this. Hits theater in 2026.

On the anime front, coming this year is Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle on Sept. 12. The original was the highest grossing anime. Chainsaw Man hits North America on Oct. 29. Scarlet sometime in the winter.

Based on the video game, Until Dawn debuts April 25. The next installment of the Insidious comes out August 2026. I Know What You Did Last Summer sees karmic payback unleashed upon teens who drove someone off road, starting July 18.

These are upcoming projects that are way off. Based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2021 novel of the same name, Klara and the Sun by director Taika Waititi and stars Jenna Ortega. Fans of the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus Zero will be happy to hear about Godzilla Minus One. The third Jumanji will be entertaining audiences on Xmas 2026. Writer/director Neil Blomkamp will be delivering a new adaptation of Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, not a remake of the Verhoven film. Wes Ball is directing the live-action The Legend of Zelda, set to be released in March 26, 2027.

Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang were on hand to present Karate Kid: Legends. Out May 30, 2025, the different storylines of the franchise come together. There’s a scene featuring each character. Li (Wang) has a fight in a kitchen, serious but slightly comical. Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) goes to see Daniel (Macchio) in CA. He wants Li to learn Miyagi’s form of karate. A new trailer was also shown.

Spider-Man 4 director Destin Daniel Cretton talked about liking the imperfect Peter Parker because that makes him identifiable. A message from star Tom Holland and the reveal of the subtitle: Brand New Day. Set for release on July 31, 2026.

Sam Mendes is directing the Beatles movies with each film told from four different perspectives. All four movies are being released April 2028 for a bingeable theatrical experience, but it’s not clear what that means. And the Fab Four are Paul – Paul Mescal, George – Joseph Quinn, John – Harris Dickinson, and Ringo – Barry Keogan
