the day that never comes

“The Day That Never Comes” is the fourth song from Metallica's 2008 album Death Magnetic. It was released as a single and reached #1 in the U.S. on Billboard Magazine’s “Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks” chart.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich explained the meaning behind the song in an interview with MTV News. “It’s a story about human beings who don’t know each other, in a particularly tense situation,” Ulrich said. “It could be a contemporary war setting, but it’s really about forgiveness and redemption and understanding what goes on in people’s minds.

Death Magnetic was the band’s first album in five years and received numerous positive reviews, including those from Rolling Stone, AllMusic, Entertainment Weekly, and BC Magazine.
