Wild Rice’s yearly pantomime is back! This time it’s The Emperor’s New Clothes, that will run at Wild Rice’s Theatre, from 13th November to 21st December 2025. Written by Joel Tan, this well known fairy tale was performed ten years ago by Wild Rice. However, the plot points and dialogue have changed, so this does feel like a completely different show.
Hoodwinked Emperor
The basic premise still remains; where an arrogant and cruel Emperor (Hossan Leong) wants to always be the most beautiful person in the land and is hoodwinked into thinking a new invisible cloth is the latest fashion must-have.
The music in this 2025 version is the same as in the original panto, save for one new song comedically called “I Look Left, Look Right” (a meme from the recent elections).
Captivating Music
Composer Julian Wong’s songs seem to have been rearranged, so this time they sound catchier and more memorable, compared to 2015. This critic found herself swaying and tapping her feet many times, whilst enjoying the captivating music and insightful yet humorous lyrics. Great for Kids
The costumes by Bangkok based Tube Gallery, the dance choreography by Gino Babagay and Hafeez Hassan, as well as the clever direction by Pam Oei, make this panto burst with energy, flavor and color. The show entices from start to finish. Kids will love this show (especially the talented little children from Wild Rice’s First Stage) and adults will be equally entertained.
