Woody Harrelson and Matthew Mcconaughey to Star in HBO’s ‘True Detective’

True Detective, a new drama starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey is set to debut next month on HBO. The series follows a pair of detectives, Martin Hart (Harrelson) and Rust Cohle (McConaughey) of the Louisiana Criminal Investigation Division, who had investigated a “macabre murder by a killer with disturbing occult leanings” back in 1995. The troubling case affected both their lives deeply.  The bizarre case had affected both their lives in unexpected, sometimes catastrophic ways.true-detective-hbo

Now a new case, eerily similar to the original murder, brings back memories of the ’95 investigation as the two detectives, according to HBO, “tell the story of both the investigation and their lives, including why Cohle left CID in 2002.”

The partners seem polar opposites. The outgoing Hart is a family man whose marriage is struggling under the stress of his livelihood; Texan Cohle is a former undercover narcotics detective. He is reclusive, with a bleak world view. But what unites them is their shared determination for justice and a “facility, for violence that will inflict irreparable damage on both men.”

The series premieres January 12 at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO.
